If you live in Gawler, or have visited Gawler or even if you’re simply passing through this picturesque township, then you know that you’ll never fall short in finding a good coffee shop!
We did a mini tour recently and did our own experimenting with some of them … You too might like to try these out … if you haven’t already. Or better yet, we’d also love to hear of your favourites.
Cafe Sia: First stop was Café Sia – the Award Winning, family owned and operated café that caters everyone. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, they’ve got the casual/family atmosphere down pat having the option to be seated either indoors or out. Their coffee is divine and they’re becoming increasingly well known for their popular Ultimate Shakes (check out Instagram!) Whether you prefer seafood, pasta dishes, burgers or want to try their mum’s special homemade falafels, make sure you visit soon! You’ll find them at 4 Tulloch Road in the Gawler Green Shopping Centre.
The Java Hut: If you love an all-day breakfast, then this one’s for you. The Java Hut is very popular and gets busy so it’s highly recommend you book if you’re visiting on the weekend. But, it’s not just breakfasts that make them popular – you’ll also find their specialty sweet and savoury pancakes, waffles, crepes, burgers and wraps. The kids are in for a special treat here to with Scooby Doo chicken nuggets and Mickey Mouse pancakes! If you love your takeaway coffee, get one on the go! The Java Hut is located at 69 Murray Street, Gawler.
Café Cibo: Coffee lovers will enjoy a visit to Cibo’s. Opened in Gawler in 2015, Cibo is spacious and relaxed. With floor to ceiling windows you can watch the bustling and vibrant Murray Street while you sip your morning cuppa and read the paper. Or why not go alfresco and enjoy the sun!. Their breakfast and lunch menus are delightful with specialities like Brioche rolls with pancetta from the Barossa, croissants, a selection of focaccias and sandwiches and even fruit salads (just to name a few). For those who like a sweet treat to with your cuppa you’ll also find an array of pastries and cakes – and oh did I mention the gelato!!?? Find them at 81 Murray Street, Gawler. Just look for the red umbrellas!
Café Nova: Operating since 1999, Café Nova is an Italian style restaurant known for their handmade pizzas. You’ll think you’re in Europe – especially if you choose the option to grab a table in the courtyard under the grapevines. They don’t just do pizzas though – they have an extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner menu that will have your mouth watering. And if it’s date night, why not head to the Gawler Cinemas afterwards (right next door!). Café Nova is situated at 19 Murray Street, Gawler.
Michel’s Patisserie: Visit the local Gawler Northern Market Shopping Centre and you’ll be able to the smell the coffee from miles away. You’ll be delighted with the smooth creamy coffees and melt in your mouth pastries that Michel’s are synonymous for? Whether you’re meeting a friend for coffee and cake, or choosing something to take home to the family, you won’t be disappointed. Cinnamon Swirl, assorted macaroons, muffins, danishes…..I could go on but you will just have to taste for yourself. Indulge in a breakfast of crepes, croissants or bacon & eggs, or a hearty lunch – soup of the day, salads, pulled pork burger ( just to name a few! ). We all know Michel’s provide for that special occasion too with personalised cakes – you can order anything from birthday cakes to a spectacular wedding cake.
Vadoulis Cafe: A fantastic way to spend a lazy afternoon or even make a day of it on a public holiday, is to visit Vadoulis Garden Centre & Café. Browse the plants and gift wares on offer and then take a seat in the café for a well-earned break! If breakfast is your preference, it’s available all day. Their menu is extensive so you won’t go hungry. If you enjoy Devonshire tea, their scones are homemade of course!. Or sample a slice of their delicious cakes in the window and relax with a hot cuppa. If you’re visiting on a warm day try an ice cold smoothie. The café is licenced as well. Vadoulis Garden Centre & Café is located at 560 Main North Road, Gawler and is open 7 days.
Poetic Justice Café: This café with a difference has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and is also partly a gallery. A collection of local artwork is on display across the walls and some of it’s for sale too. They use local produce and often use local native seeds in their cooking. They make a beautiful quandong cheesecake and a delicious wattle seed brownie. Serving up breakfast and lunch they cater for a variety of dietary needs – just ask! What is even more unique is that several times a week a local poet holds workshops and poetry readings. The owner likes to focus on happiness and wellbeing and this is reflected in the menu so why not drop in to 3 Walker Place, Gawler and try something special.
Hudsons Coffee: Hudsons is a relaxing coffee shop located in Commercial Lane, just off Murray Street in Gawler. Sink into their leather lounges and linger a while over coffee and a chat. However you like your brew, you will find something to tickle your tastebuds. Summer day drinks are becoming popular now with the weather warming up and they’re serving up drinks like Ice Storm and Chilled Chai and for the kiddies delicious milkshakes to go ! Of if you’re a smoothie type of gal or guy then you can’t go past the banana and oat specialty. A select range of Danishes, muffins and sandwiches will also have your mouth watering. We also love their “pay it forward service” where you can pay for a coffee in advance for someone in need to enjoy later.
Gawler South Bakery: Opened in 1967, Gawler South Bakery has just celebrated their 50th birthday! Open 7 days a week, they bake fresh every day. Many Gawler locals and visitors have been coming back time after time for their beautifully baked pies, pasties and sausage rolls. They are open for breakfast and the seating out the front is perfect for watching the world go by. A trip to the bakery isn’t complete without sampling an apricot slice or classic finger bun, or at least taking home a selection of pies or cakes for the family. Try one of their honey or smiley face biscuits – they won’t disappoint. They can be found at 30 Adelaide Road, Gawler South.
Coffee on Jacob: With black and white floor tiles reminiscent of old style cafes, Coffee on Jacob is a relaxing, friendly café with indoor and outdoor seating. They use Lavazza coffee beans which makes beautiful creamy coffee and goes well with their breakfast, lunch or dessert menu. Toasted or fresh sandwiches, baked potatoes, doorstops, soup of the day or even their Jacob Beef Burger are all popular dishes. There are a lot of Gluten Free options as well. Every kid’s meal comes with a free scoop of ice cream which is sure to be a hit! With something for everyone to enjoy you can find them at 2 Jacob Street, Gawler.
